vinyl is healthy!

SF Examiner interview with Amoeba Records co-owner Marc Weinstein:
“The vinyl market has grown tremendously in the last 10 years. The record industry systematically tried to destroy the market for vinyl and, to a great extent, did. But a lot of hard-core collectors and DJs and avid listeners still stand by vinyl as the superior medium. I believe vinyl sounds better to this day and it has a lot more romance. CD media is kind of a hoax. A CD in a jewel case with all the printed matter can be produced for about a dollar and they list for about $18.98. Vinyl records cost a lot more to produce and typically list for about $8.98.”

Various Artists, Mixmag #27 Tom Middleton: A Jedi’s Night Ou

Do any of you remember Espiritu “Man Don’t Cry” (Modwheel Mix)
Isn’t this just a completely breathtaking Tom Middleton remix? I was just re-appreciating the Middleton’s Mixmag compilation and this song, which I never really noticed before, is gorgeous, deep, lush, yet has a tech-y flavor as well. This is the kind of track that reminds me why I love deep house music.
This compilation is so damn good…how does he do it? There isn’t a bad track on here at all. “What’s Your Number” is played out now, but wasn’t then and I still love it 🙂 Korben Dallas’ track is of course popular again, “New Jersey Deep” is always a classic, and the Sensurreal track is pretty too. Global Communication’s “The Way” is awesome and ending with “Stay With Me” is so inspired.
Anyone know if the new Cosmos/Tom Middleton project thing is out yet?

Ishkur’s Guide to Electronic Music

A biting commentary on rave culture today led me to a very opinionated but educational Flash-driven guide to electronic music and a humorous “dictionary” of raver vocabulary. PLUR!
$4000 for a Fuji S1 Pro professional digital camera or a $7 roll of Fuji Provia 100F slide film? Compare for yourself.
Who is this woman who’s jammin’ with the JB Horns(Maceo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley)? Candy Dulfer!
